Glitter is "in Fashion" at the DIY Club!

 Back in a former life I was a clothing designer. I went to design school and the whole shebang. My favorite class was fashion illustration. It is still one of my favorite things to do...although I cannot seem to find the time to do it much anymore.

Now on to another favorite...glitter and sparkles. P.K. Glitz is a new sponsor at the DIY Club and we are all so excited. While I love all things glittery and sparkly, I honestly have not had much experience crafting with glitter - kids crafts do not count!

Then, I ran across some of my old sketches from school and though how much fun to make some cards incorporating two of my favorite things!

Glittering Fashion Illustration Cards

Supplies
*P.K. Glitz Glitter, in your choice of colors. {I used Peppermint Twist, Newsprint, and Crystal}
*Blank cards {I prefer the ones with a watercolor texture, but smooth will work too}
*Sketches or clip art {I am thinking about uploading my sketches to scribd...if anyone wants them before hand, contact me, I will email you the files}
*Glue {I used a squeeze and roll glue pen}
*Paint brush {to smooth glue}
*Coffee Filters or Paper for catching glue
*Optional, Transfer Paper*

NOTE: I wanted to play around with the placement of my skirts, so I chose not to print directly onto the card. I used
DIY It!
1- Print illustrations or clip art on the card directly
OR
{As I did} {print illustrations out on T-Shirt transfer paper - be sure to use MIRROR image when printing.
2-Place illustration on card and iron onto paper as per package directions. I found ironing onto the paper took a little longer than ironing onto fabric.
3-Let cool and peel transfer paper off
4-"Paint" or "draw" glue onto illustrations in desired locations.
5-Place card on coffee filter (I learned this trick from Tammy at Not Just Paper and Glue - the filters make it so easy to slip the extra glitter back into the jar with little waste!} and sprinkle glitter over illustration.
6- Carefully pick up card and tap excess glitter into coffee filter.
7- Let dry.

NOTE: This is a new venture for me - card making {I have made a few here and there} and glitter. I am sure there are some experts out there who may have other methods, but this worked for me

The DIY Club JULY Challenge is still on...you have until Friday to link up your creation. There is a $200 prize up for grabs! The blog hop is below!

Do you like glittery and sparkly as much as I do?
I have another glittery kid-related project coming tomorrow!

    I LOVE sparkles, I am a glitter whore. You could cover dog poo in glitter and I'd be all ooooh, shiny.

  17. Hi Holly-

    My roomate at FIT was an Illustration major. I always wanted to be able to draw like she did. Your drawings are bringing that desire back in me - they are beautiful. The addition of the glitter makes them even more special.
    My best- Diane
