WOW Goes to Sin City

OK all, be kind...I don't do fiction...well, I guess I do now!
Trying out the WOW! words.
{So, I realized I missed the WOW! linky because I don't read carefully...duh!,
but I am trying to break out of my comfort zone and
explore my creative writing side, so I thought I would publish this anyway.}

I decided to take a gamble with my life...give up the small town country living and fresh air for the bright lights and ka-ching of the slots in Vegas. This was the "big time" for this small town girl. I had never been on a place, heck I had never been out of the state, but I was doing it...I was packing my bags and doubling down for a new lease on life.

I am not sure why I picked Vegas of all places...I mean I love that CSI show, but I surely did not want to end up dead in Sin City. I don't know how to play poker, or craps, or even the point of the roulette wheel...still there was something about it, something that drew me there.

But, what was I going to do...become a showgirl...a cocktail waitress...or just make nice with a pit boss and hope he would direct me to all the big shots {aka big bucks} so I could find "true love" and spend my days lounging in private cabana wearing a string bikini and drinking free flowing champagne with all my new found friends.

I never quite hit that big-shot-jackpot. I tried...I maxed out my credit cards on hot little dresses and stilettos. Highlighted my hair, waxed my brows, and hung out at all the "right" places. Oh, I came close to "the big time," but it was not right. It was not me. There was something missing. Vegas was not quite all I had dreamed it to be. It was not home...I knew that it wouldn't be, but it was not all that exciting either. There are only so many pools and so many hotels and only so much you can take of it before, well, you are just over it.

On a particularly crappy day - too hot, too many tourists, not enough opportunities - I was walking to work via my usual route past the Paris. I stopped and looked up, as I always did, in awe of this faux Eiffel Tower. I desperately wanted to see the real Eiffel tower, but that like all my other dreams was seeming so far off. Lost in my own world, I spun around and bumped, actually ran into someone. I caught myself and looked up into a face with a pair of sweet cowboy eyes and a homespun grin.

That was it, that is what was missing...I am a country girl. The bright lights, big city, and crowds were not my thing. All I needed was a cowboy {and maybe a few acres}. I felt a sense of peace as he asked if I was alright. I smiled at this cowboy. He smiled back, and all I thought to myself was "winner, winner, chicken dinner." I may have spent some - possibly all of - my money. I may have left my real home for the hope a new and better life. It may not have been the stuff dreams are made of, but when all was said and done, there was a reason. I ended up finding the love of my life.

{P.S. We honeymooned at the REAL Eiffel Tower}

  4. That was a cute story. Did you get the land that came with the cowboy. I only went to Vegas once for a conference. I didn't think I would like it at all. I loved it for a visit but like you, I am a country girl.....or a least a small town girl.

  6. Great story and what a super romantic way to meet! Love it! I do love Vegas for about one weekend or two a year is about all I can handle. I cannot imagine living there-certainly no where near the Strip at least.
