When I first moved from Southern California 8 years ago, I drove a lot. I made many, many trips between my old and new homes. I probably drove the stretch of HWY 101 8-9 times a year. At that time it was just me and my young son (he was 4). I started t think...
"What would happen if we got in an accident?"
"What would my son do if something happened to me?"
My son was only 4 then - he did not have a cell phone, he did not know all the new phone numbers. He was young! This is when I started making
Road Trip Emergency Cards. 
But instead she thought I was brilliant...So now I am sharing my #1 Road Trip Safety Tip with you. It is simple and essentially free! I even made a (kind of lame) printable form for you!
(but I will be honest I often just write it on a piece of brightly colored paper)

For every trip I write a note and make multiple copies, usually on brightly colored paper so it stands out.
One gets tucked by the sun visor on the driver side.
One for the center console.
One in my wallet by my drivers license.
Basic info included:
Date:
My Name
My point of origin and my destination
The number of passengers and their names and ages
My emergency contact person
Optional:
Cell Phone password
Medical insurance info
Allergies
Of course you can add anything you feel necessary!

This is super smart, Holly! I've also heard to tape or put a label on each child's car seat with their information just in case...especially when they are too young to speak.

Holly, this is a very good idea you have shared in your post. It would certainly help authorities if an accident occurred, even if 2 adults were traveling together. It would help to notify family members in a more timely manner when both are incapacitated or unconscious. It is no fun to think about, but these things do happen. Thanks for sharing your tips with us!

ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! i always have something like this on me when I fly...but never thought about doing it for driving...although I am on the road much more often than i am on a plane! One thing i always have is a note that says I am a catholic (for my last rights)...now talk about morbid :) I love your creativity!

Hi Holly, I saw your feature over at Posed Perfection's All Things Thursday. This is such a great idea! I was sitting here thinking that I wish I had seen this when my kids were younger, but actually, I think it would be helpful for anyone making a trip anywhere. You just never know what circumstances you might find yourself in, and this would help to cover the bases. So glad you shared it. Have a great day!
